The forestry park at Afan Argoed covers 13,000 hectares and consists of 9 walking trails which are all varied in distance.

The park's visitors centre and surrounding area offers a café, gift shop, South Wales miners museum, conference centre/training room, information centre, camping, cycle hire and toilet facilities.

Equestrian Centres & Trekking

Port Talbot's surrounding areas boast some of the best riding in the country, with superb views from high up in the forests. There are over 64km of bridleways and over 48km of forestry tracks to be enjoyed.

There are several purpose built centres in the area, ideal for beginners taking their first lessons and professionally led treks through the heart of the countryside.

Margam Country Park

Set in 1000 acres of glorious parklands, Margam Country Park features a magnificent 18th century orangery, a Tudor-gothic style Victorian mansion house, a 12th century chapter house, restored historic gardens around the castle, the monastic gardens and orangey terrace.

Margam park consists of splendid walks, narrow gauge railway, children's adventure playground, farm trail and pets corner, fairytale land, fishing and the best collection of deer in Wales. The visitors centre has a gift shop and café.

The Orangery at Margam Country Park in Port Talbot

Margam Castle is built on the site of an ancient iron age settlement. A striking piece of gothic architecture, the castle was commissioned in 1830 and was used by British and American forces during World War 2.

After the war the castle fell into disrepair, but was acquired and restored by Glamorgan Council during the 1970s.
